_Paramount Airways (QJ/PAT)
_
Paramount Airways was formed on 8 June 1986 and made its first flight on 1 May 1987, from Bristol Lulsgate to Malaga and Tenerife. The airline leased two MD83's, being the first arliine in the UK to operate the type.
In 1988 Amber Air was purchased an incorporated into the airline, along with their B737.
Flights were operated from Bristol Lulsgate, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, and Gatwick.
In July 1989, Paramount were experiencing financial difficulties, and were eventually declared insolvent for a figure of around £11 million. Aircraft were subsequently impounded at Bristol and Birmingham due to unpaid fees. They did manage to make payments which guaranteed that they were able to operate for the rest of the 1987 summer season, but in November the MD83's were released back to the lessors and the company had, by then, effectively ceased trading.
The company was finally wound up in 1995 after lengthy legal battles with ex-employees over pension benefits and unpaid wages.
